Other major advances have occurred in imaging modalities involving computed tomography and magnetic resonance studies. Due to these advances, the recent 2015 ACG guideline changed the terminology from “obscure” to “small bowel” bleeding because the majority of cases now can be found to have a small bowel source. The improvements in technology have advanced our ability to visualized vascular findings, inflammatory lesions, and small bowel neoplasms. Using relatively limited text content and preferentially applying the physiologic, clinical, and therapeutic principles throughillustrations and case studies of disorders of gastrointestinal motility and function, Dr. Michael Camilleri relied on more than 3 decades of clinical experience at Mayo Clinic to craft a text that is unique among textbooks dealing with gastrointestinal motility disorders.Forty percent of patients evaluated in clinical gastroenterologic practice have gastrointestinal motility and functional disorders. Thus, this illustrated textbook is a valuable resource for gastroenterologists in training and practice, internal medicine physicians, and neurologists with an interestin autonomic nervous system disorders that frequently manifest with gastrointestinal symptoms. The textbook addresses chronic nausea or vomiting and neurologic diseases; the diagnosis and management of diverse disorders, including gastroparesis, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, and diarrhea;less common congenital and genetic disorders; and the role of pharmacogenomics in these diseases. The breadth of this textbook and its many illustrations combine to make it a unique and required study guide.
Product Details

Publisher ‏ : ‎ Oxford University Press (August 6, 2021)
Language ‏ : ‎ English
Hardcover ‏ : ‎ 360 pages
ISBN-10 ‏ : ‎ 0197512100
ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 978-0197512104
ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 9780197512104
eText ISBN: 9780197512128

DR. Most gastric cancers are diagnosed in advanced stages, and the prognosis remains poor. The 5-year survival rate is 40-60% in eastern countries and around 25% in the west. Among advanced gastric cancer cases, peritoneal implantation is one of the most common forms of metastasis and around 14% of cases present peritoneal metastases at initial diagnosis, presenting a survival of 3-6 months. Until the early 1990s it was considered a terminal disease. But today these patients have some opportunities to be treated with curative intent or to prolong their life. Although the prognosis remains poor, there are some treatment options including cytoreductive surgery, neoadjuvant therapy, and some forms of intraperitoneal chemotherapy with or without hyperthermia. These are aggressive treatments, so we must be careful when selecting patients. Imaging and preoperative staging are also crucial in selecting patients for appropriate treatment. The surgical technique is described and a detailed demonstration video is available in the e-book version. New forms of treatment such as PIPAC and new scientific advances and future perspectives are discussed. This book is an update on this topic and attempts to provide an overview for all medical personnel involved in the treatment of these patients.
Product Details

Publisher ‏ : ‎ Nova Science Pub Inc (May 14, 2021)
Language ‏ : ‎ English
Hardcover ‏ : ‎ 258 pages
ISBN-10 ‏ : ‎ 1536194875
ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 978-1536194876
ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 9781536194876
eText ISBN: 9781536196023
Item Weight ‏ : ‎ 1.74 pounds

DR. There are two types of IBD: ulcerative colitis, which causes inflammation and ulcers in the lining of the rectum and colon; and Crohn's disease which causes inflammation deeper within the intestinal wall of the small intestine and can occur in other parts of the digestive system including the mouth, oesophagus, and stomach. Although both conditions are characterized by inflammation and ulceration, they are in fact different disease processes and their treatments can differ. However, the goal of IBD treatment is to eliminate inflammation and there are many types of anti-inflammatory drugs currently available. In this beautifully illustrated new book, a specialist team of three physicians and one surgeon address some of the major questions surrounding this interesting group of diseases. Key topics include: new investigative techniques; differential diagnosis and management of specific disease states; complex manifestations of IBC and in-depth presentation of new therapeutic modalities. surgeons interested in gastrointestinal disease, general physicians and for doctors and surgeons in training.
Product Details

Publisher ‏ : ‎ Clinical Publishing; 1st edition (May 1, 2011)
Language ‏ : ‎ English
Hardcover ‏ : ‎ 110 pages
ISBN-10 ‏ : ‎ 1846920132
ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 978-1846920134
ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 9781846920134
eText ISBN: 9781846925061

DR. Sutherland MD FRCSC, Chad G. Ball MD MSc FRCSC FACS
Surgery remains a challenge for young learners. Perhaps the most difficult of all surgeries are those done on the liver, biliary tree and pancreas. These organs are difficult to expose, difficult to operate and the patients are often difficult to recover. There are significant consequences for any missteps on what is a narrow pathway to a successful outcome. The skills needed to master surgery on these organs are hard to acquire. The volume of information presented to students is enormous and complex to parse. HPB textbooks contain a large amount of information from various authors but are often poorly coordinated. Surgical manuals contain significant anatomic details and descriptions but have difficulty transferring key concepts. Experienced surgeons are often oblivious to their skills and communicate poorly to their students regarding the things they do or understand that make them wise. This book tries to capture this wisdom. The topics in this book are most applicable to hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeons but really extend to all general surgeons. Anyone who operates in the abdomen must have a basic understanding of these dominant organs; general surgery trainees and staff are an additional focus of this book. The skills needed for a modern surgeon to succeed are much broader than the scalpel tip. Section I, “HPB Surgical Craft”, imparts important lessons on the laws of human interactions and cognitive aspects of surgery. Sections on the anatomy and operations on the liver, pancreas and bile ducts are presented. The expanded gallbladder section and pancreatitis chapters are of particular importance to general surgery residents. This book has been written in a readable and entertaining style, with many fun historical and contemporary quotes dotted throughout.
The Wise Scalpel is an attempt to impart knowledge and understanding to students and practicing surgeons at all levels. The book focuses on tips, traps and underlying truths about the diseases of these organs and their surgical treatment. While this book will not supplant the struggle needed to move from novice to expert surgeon, hopefully it will quicken the process and help avoid some of the dangers and frustrations along the way.
Dr. Francis R. This book teaches these skills to achieve positive results.
Patients with anorectal malformations (ARMs), Hirschsprung disease (HD), fecal incontinence from a variety of conditions, colonic motility disorders, and a myriad of other conditions comprise the field of pediatric colorectal and pelvic reconstruction. Such patients require care throughout their lives from specialists across numerous fields, which may include colorectal surgery, urology, gynecology, and GI motility, as well as specialized nursing, orthopedics, neurosurgery, anesthesia, pathology, radiology, psychology, social work, and nutrition.
Sometimes the field can seem chaotic and unpredictable. Reconstruction requires creativity and at times it feels that artwork is being created during the actual operation with no pre-plan in mind. Marc Levitt and his colleagues have worked very hard to counter that feeling, to be fully prepared, and to develop protocols, techniques, and processes that can be adopted by other clinicians, so that optimal results for patients can be achieved. Ulcerative colitis is a relapsing nontransmural inflammatory disease restricted to colon, which may be classified as proctitis, left-sided colitis, or pancolitis depending on the extent of involvement. Some patients also develop ileal inflammation (backwash ileitis), which occasionally complicates its differentiation from Crohn’s ileocolitis. Crohn’s disease is defined as a relapsing transmural inflammatory disease of gastrointestinal mucosa that may affect the entire gastrointestinal tract (GIT) from the mouth to the anus. There is discontinuous involvement of various portions of the GIT and may get complicated by formation of strictures, abscesses, or fistulas. It closely resembles intestinal tuberculosis both clinically and on investigations.
GI tuberculosis is often suspected on the basis of its clinical, radiological, and endoscopic features, but histological or microbiologic proof of the disease is often difficult to achieve. Therefore, the majority of patients are treated with antitubercular drugs on presumptive diagnosis only. Similar clinical, endoscopic, radiological, and histological features of GI tuberculosis and Crohn’s disease pose a serious challenge to the treating physician. The rate of misdiagnosis of these conditions using conventional diagnostic measures has been reported to be around 50–70%. Thus differentiation and diagnosis of these conditions is difficult but very important for correct treatment of the patients. Recently some serological tests have come up for diagnosing Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, which may help to distinguish these disorders from each other and from GI tuberculosis.
Besides diagnosis, treatment for IBD is also an emerging field in which active research is going on. The traditional drugs used in treatment of IBD include steroids and aminosalicylates. Recent studies have evaluated the role of azathioprine, methotrexate, and cyclosporine. Apart from improving efficacy of therapy in short term, these agents have raised debate on complications of therapy, long-term efficacy, and cost. Management of IBD during pregnancy and fistulising Crohn’s disease are other areas of concern.

Product Details

ASIN ‏ : ‎ B008HRMFUQ
Publisher ‏ : ‎ Elsevier India (July 5, 2012)
Publication date ‏ : ‎ July 5, 2012
Language ‏ : ‎ English
ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 9788131231913
ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 978-8131231913

DR. Shrikhande, Markus W. Büchler

Over the last two decades, there have been major advances in imaging, endoscopy, and laparoscopy in the field of gastrointestinal (GI) surgery. GI surgery is the newest sub-specialty branch of general surgery, where enhanced expertise and high-volume centres have made a difference to the outcomes of complex operations. Surgeons can now perform difficult procedures with low morbidity and mortality rates, and greatly improved overall results. This volume provides detailed and comprehensive information on diseases of the pancreas. The pancreas continues to fascinate clinicians and researchers worldwide, due to its anatomical location deep inside the abdominal cavity and the various functions of the gland, some of which are well understood but others remaining ill-defined. Last but certainly not least, pancreatic surgery, along with liver surgery, remains the final frontier for the vast majority of GI and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgeons. The information explosion in this era has resulted in cutting-edge developments in acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, and pancreatic cancer. Low-fiber diets, limited exposure to nature, and overzealous use of pharmaceuticals have messed up our microbiome, making many of us more susceptible to viruses than we naturally should be. But the good news is that unlike our genes, our microbiome is constantly evolving, offering a pathway back to health for those who are suffering, and proven protection for those who want to stay well. In The Anti-Viral Gut, Dr. Robynne Chutkan explains this groundbreaking research and offers a prescriptive plan for anyone trying to avoid or recover from a viral illness to rehab their gut microbes and restore their health. In this powerful road map to strengthening the gut-immune system, Chutkan gives practical advice for balancing both your internal and external environment by optimizing diet, exercise, sleep, and time outdoors to boost your host defenses and overall health. Multiple choice questions, clinical cases, a short picture gallery of the most common GI conditions, and a comparison of the major societies' guidelines (BSG, ASG, ACG, UEGF) make this the perfect tool for reference or review. Product Details Paperback: 480 pages Publisher: Wiley-Blackwell; 1 edition (April 30, 2012) Language: English ISBN-10: 0470656255 ISBN-13: 978-0470656259 ISBN-13: 9780470656259 eText ISBN: 9781119959762 eText ISBN: 9781119959731

DR.
